こどもの国ってご存知ですか？横浜市青葉区と東京都町田市にまたがる広大な公園。100ヘクタール、つまり東京ディズニーランドの2倍以上もある大きな場所。
我が家では今年春先に帰国してから（ドバイに3ヶ月いました）、一度めは長女が1歳8ヶ月の時、2度目は長女2歳4ヶ月＋次女0歳2ヶ月にこどもの国にいきました。そして今月またお友達家族と遊びにいく予定！
屋外なので混んでても気が知れてるし、1日がかりで楽しんで幼児たちのエネルギーも発散できる。お友達にも知って欲しいので、勝手に紹介します！
交通手段
- 車で行く場合：首都高速横羽線「青葉インターチェンジ」から約15分。目黒駅近のお友達は、日曜朝に40分でついたとのこと。車の場合は駐車場が正面駐車場と牧場口駐車場というのがあります。朝イチで牧場に直行するならば後者の方が便利なのですが、土日でも空いてる日とそうでない日があるとのこと。
- 電車で行く場合：東急こどもの国線「こどもの国駅」から徒歩約5分。渋谷からは長津田で一度だけ乗換えで便利。電車の外も中も可愛くて、ここから遊んでるような気持ちになります！20分に一本くらいしかないのが難点ですが。
入園料や園内の料金
入園料は、大人（高校生以上）600円、中学生・小学生200円、幼児（3歳以上）100円です。
園内の乗り物など追加料金も、基本300-400円程度とかなり良心的です！2歳以下が二人の我が家は、大人料金しかかからない。
こんな広くてこの金額でいいの？という安さ。というのも、こちら国営だから。ありがたい。
2歳児の遊び
こどもの国は、とにかく広い！遊びもかなり多種多様で2歳には難しいものもありますが、楽しめる遊びがたくさんあります！
回りきれないことを念頭に、この遊具は絶対、など決めておくと便利です。
- 雪印牧場
幼児に大人気のスポット。ウシやヒツジ、ポニーに触れ合ったり、エサをあげたりすることができます。柵越しに動物を観察したり、エサをあげたりすることで、うちの2歳も十分に楽しめました。特に、牧場では動物に触れ合うのが楽しみで、何度もエサをあげていました。
長女はポニーに乗った瞬間は緊張してたものの、乗れたことを誇りに思ってて、お馬さん乗ったねー！と1ヶ月経った今でも話してくれます。
私のおすすめは「こども遊牧場」の横にあるミルクプラントのソフトクリーム！娘のアイスデビューもこちらでした。濃厚な牛乳の味がして、本当に美味しい。普段コンビニやスーパーでは全然アイスを買わないのですが、こちらは別。私もこどもの頃から好物です。
牧場エリアだけでも結構広くて、ここだけでも何時間も過ごせそうです。
- 乳幼児広場
足元がふわふわになっていて、小さめの滑り台や汽車など、小さな子どもでも安心して遊ぶことができる、０−3歳の乳幼児エリアです。

・ゆうぐひろば タイムトラベル
いろんな遊具や滑り台。5歳くらいまでのお子さんが多く、土日はとても混みますが、ここも大きい滑り台があって2歳もとても楽しめました。うちはターザンもやりましたが大喜び。よちよち歩きだと危ないかも。
- その他の遊び
ほかにも、横浜一長いローラーすべり台、様々な自転車などの乗り物、冬はスケート場、夏はプールやせせらぎの川など。2歳児でも楽しめる遊びがたくさんありますが、我が家はいつも奥まで辿り着かず、まだまだ開拓中です。
園内での交通手段 ベビーカーは持ってくべき？
うちの答えは、2歳には不要！0歳には持っていく、です。
園内には、園内バス「あかポッポ号」が運行しています。とにかく広いこどもの国なので、ぐるっと回るのも大変！各乗り物や施設へのアクセスに便利です。
我が家は、私の妊娠体調が悪かった頃は、園内バスをよく利用しました。バスなのに汽車ぽっぽの形になってるので、アトラクションみたいで長女も喜んで乗っていました。
また、2歳になってからのヒットは緑のベビーカー！園内の入り口付近で一日300円とすごく安く借りれます。本人も気に入って、自分から乗ってました。大人はたくさん歩くことになりますが。笑
園内での食事は、持参がおすすめ！
園内には、レストランや売店がいくつかありますが、数が少ない！園内が広い割に遠いので、結構たどり着くのが大変。そして昔ながらの昭和な感じです。
我が家は、テイクアウトなど持参して食べています。JRでいく場合、乗換駅の長津田は東急までの100mの間にお店がたくさんあるのでそこで買うと楽ちん。こどもの国駅前にもコンビニが一つあります。現地ではピクニックシートを広げて、のんびり過ごすのがおすすめです。また、前述の牧場ソフトクリームは絶品なので、ぜひ味わってみてください。
まとめ
こどもの国は、2歳児にも楽しめる！改めて幼児にもぴったりの公園です。動物と触れ合ったり、思いっきり大きな遊具で遊んだり、家族で楽しい大充実な時間を過ごすことができます。2023年3回も行くほどお気に入りの場所となりました。
横浜や多摩地方の方々からは昔から馴染みのある場所だと思いますが、都内のママ友人たちに話すとあまり皆知らなくて、意外と有名ではないのかも、と気づきました。とっても楽しくて、お友達家族にも来て欲しいのでブログを書きました。私はこの中学生の頃、友達とこどもの国に来た思い出もあるので、期間も長ーく楽しめる場所になるかと思います。
以下、2歳児連れで行くときに注意すること：
- 季節によって服装を調整
こどもの国は広大な公園なので、常に歩き回ます。「室内」がほぼないです。夏は汗をかきやすく、冬は寒い！動きやすい服装と、日よけや防寒対策が大事。冬でも子供は走るので、薄着にもなれるよう重ね着させようと思っています。
- 帽子やサングラスを用意
日差しが強い日は、帽子やサングラスがあると便利です。夏場は、虫よけ対策も。
- 水分補給をこまめにする
歩き回るので、水分補給をこまめに。
- おむつや着替えを用意する
おむつ替えの場所は各遊びエリアにあります。豪華ではないですが、意外と（失礼）清潔でした。
自然がたっぷりで、大人も楽しい「こどもの国」。大人も移動だけでだいぶ運動不足解消になります。ぜひ遊びに行ってみてね！！

こどもの国は東京都心からわずか30キロ、多摩丘陵の東、神奈川県横浜市と東京都町田市の境に位置し、雑木林をベースにした自然の中に、たくさんの子どもの遊び場が点在しています。
1959年（昭和34年）4月の皇太子殿下（現上皇陛下）のご結婚を記念して、全国から寄せられたお祝い金を基金に、1965年（昭和40年）5月5日のこどもの日に開園しました。旧日本陸軍の国有地が米軍から返還されたのを受けて、国費をはじめ多くの民間企業や団体・個人の協力で整備されました。次世代を担うこどもの健全育成のための施設で、児童福祉法に基づく児童厚生施設です。
広さ約100ヘクタール（約30万坪）、外周道路4キロ、内周道路2.4キロをはじめ、雑木林をぬうように散策道路が縦横に通じています。「ゆうぐひろば」「じゆうひろば」「ミニＳＬ『たいよう号』」「園内バス『あかポッポ号』」横浜一長い「110ｍローラーすべりだい」「せせらぎ」「つり橋」「サイクリングコース」「ボートのりば」など様々な遊び場があります。
園内の牧場は「株式会社雪印こどもの国牧場」が経営していて、エサをあげることのできる「ウシ・ヒツジのぼくじょう」、ウサギやモルモットなど動物とふれあえる「こどもどうぶつえん」、乗馬体験のできるポニー牧場などもあり、搾りたての牛乳を製品化した「特別牛乳サングリーン」やソフトクリームが評判です。
夏には大きな日よけの屋根がついた屋外プール、冬は屋外アイススケート場がオープンします。飯ごう炊事やバーベキューができる施設もあります。
小学校や幼稚園の遠足場所として利用される他、少年サッカー場やグラウンドもあり、一般団体でも運動会、オリエンテーリング、ウォークラリー、ハイキング、ジョギング、マラソンなどにご利用いただけます。
桜、紅葉、昆虫、野鳥など、四季折々の自然にふれあうことができ、土日を中心に様々なイベントを実施しています。
Do you know Kodomo no Kuni aka Kidsland?
Located across Aoba Ward in Yokohama City and Machida City in Tokyo, this vast park spans an impressive 100 hectares—more than twice the size of Tokyo Disneyland.
Since returning to Japan from Dubai this spring, our family has visited Kodomo no Kuni three times: first when my eldest daughter was 1 year and 8 months old, then with my eldest at 2 years and 4 months and my second daughter at just 2 months, and we’re planning to go again this month with a friend’s family!
Being an outdoor space, it doesn’t feel overwhelming even if it’s busy, and the kids can burn off their endless energy while we enjoy a whole day of fun. I want more of my friends to know about this amazing spot, so here’s a little introduction!
Getting There
By Car:
From the Shuto Expressway Yokohama Route, take the Aoba Interchange, and it’s about a 15-minute drive. A friend who lives near Meguro Station mentioned it took them just 40 minutes on a Sunday morning. There are two parking lots: the Main Entrance Parking and the Bokujoguchi Parking (closer to the farm area). If you’re heading straight to the farm, the latter is more convenient, but availability can vary, even on weekends.
By Train:
Kodomo no Kuni Station is a 5-minute walk from the park and is served by the Tokyu Kodomo no Kuni Line. From Shibuya, you’ll only need one transfer at Nagatsuta, making it an easy trip. The adorable train design makes the ride feel like the adventure has already started! The only downside? Trains come only every 20 minutes.
Admission and Inside the Park
Admission Fees:
- Adults (high school age and above): 600 yen
- Middle and elementary school students: 200 yen
- Preschoolers (3 years and above): 100 yen
The additional fees for rides and attractions within the park are very reasonable, typically around 300–400 yen. Since both my kids are under 3, we only pay for the adult tickets.
Given the size and the affordable entry fees, it almost feels too good to be true—but that’s because it’s a government-run facility. So grateful!
Activities for Toddlers
Kodomo no Kuni is incredibly spacious, with countless activities to enjoy. While some may be too advanced for toddlers, there’s still plenty they can participate in and love!
To make the most of your visit, it’s helpful to prioritize certain attractions.
Yukijirushi Farm
A favorite among young children, this area allows interaction with cows, sheep, and ponies, including feeding and observing them up close.
Our 2-year-old had a blast feeding the animals and watching them from behind the fences. She especially enjoyed the hands-on experience of feeding them repeatedly!
My eldest daughter was initially nervous about riding a pony, but she was so proud after the ride. Even a month later, she still excitedly talks about “riding the pony!”
Don’t miss: The soft-serve ice cream at the milk plant next to the Children’s Pasture. This was where my daughter had her first taste of ice cream! The rich, creamy milk flavor is absolutely divine. I’ve loved this treat since I was a child myself.
Even just the farm area is spacious enough to spend several hours exploring.
Infant Play Area
This section is designed for children aged 0–3, featuring soft ground, small slides, and a toy train, allowing even toddlers to play safely.
- Mini SL: 300 yen per person
- Playground: Time Travel Area: A wide variety of play equipment and slides.
While weekends can get crowded, the larger slides and Tarzan rope swing were a big hit with our 2-year-old. That said, parents of younger toddlers should be mindful, as some areas can be a bit tricky for unsteady walkers.
Other Activities
There’s so much more to enjoy, including Yokohama’s longest roller slide, various bikes and vehicles, a skating rink in winter, and pools or streams in summer. Even with multiple visits, we’ve yet to explore the entire park!
Strollers: Bring One or Not?
For our family, the answer is yes for 0-year-olds, no for 2-year-olds.
Kodomo no Kuni is vast, and walking can get tiring, especially for little ones. The park offers a fun-looking green rental stroller near the entrance for just 300 yen per day, which our daughter loved using.
Additionally, the park has an internal bus called the Aka Poppo Train, which loops around the park. It’s a lifesaver when you need to get from one area to another quickly.
Food Recommendations
The park has a few restaurants and shops, but they are limited in number and spaced far apart. We usually bring our own food for convenience. If you’re taking the train, Nagatsuta Station (your transfer point) has many shops along the way where you can grab food. There’s also a convenience store near Kodomo no Kuni Station.
Once inside, a picnic is the way to go! Don’t forget to try the farm’s soft-serve ice cream.
Tips for Visiting with Toddlers
- Dress for the season: The park is entirely outdoors, so bring layers, sun hats, or cold-weather gear, depending on the season.
- Stay hydrated: You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so don’t forget water bottles.
- Bring diapers and a change of clothes: Diaper-changing facilities are available and clean.
- Prepare for nature: Hats, sunglasses, and insect repellent can be useful on sunny days.
Final Thoughts
Kodomo no Kuni is a fantastic spot for families with toddlers. With opportunities to interact with animals, explore large playgrounds, and enjoy spacious natural surroundings, it’s become one of our favorite destinations. We visited three times in 2023 and are still discovering new things to enjoy!
If you live in Yokohama or the Tama area, you may already be familiar with this park, but surprisingly, many of my friends in central Tokyo hadn’t heard of it. Hopefully, this inspires more families to check it out!

Located just 30 km from central Tokyo, Kodomo no Kuni opened on May 5, 1965, in celebration of Crown Prince Akihito’s wedding in 1959. Funded by public donations and constructed on land returned from the U.S. military, the park was designed to support the healthy development of children as per Japan’s Child Welfare Act. It spans 100 hectares with numerous attractions, including playgrounds, a roller slide, a petting farm, and seasonal activities.
