ドバイ子連れ旅：アブラ船で1AEDの船旅。オールドドバイで感じる本当のイスラム

こんにちは！全国通訳案内士で起業家、二人の娘と年100日旅するAmiです。 キラキラした高層ビルも良いけれど、私の推しは旧市街のオールドドバイエリア。

今回は次女が少し体調を崩したため夫とお留守番。私と4歳の長女、アメリカから来た義父母の4人で巡った記録を綴ります。

歴史が息づくバスタキヤ地区と義父母の遠慮

グランドハイアットからタクシーで15分のバスタキヤ地区（アル・ファヒディ歴史地区）。

エリアに入ってまず目に入るのが立派なモスク。 通訳案内士の私としては文化体験のためにもぜひ中に入って欲しかったけれど、義父母は「自分たちはイスラム教徒ではないから、入ってはいけない気がする」と遠慮。異文化への敬意ゆえの緊張だったのかもしれません。無理強いはせず先へ進みました。

すぐ横にも、伝統建築が並び、アル・シーフ・ヘリテージ・ホテル（キュリオ・コレクションbyヒルトン）など街並みに溶け込んだホテルも点在する雰囲気抜群のエリアがあります。

道中、可愛い野良猫がたくさんいて、4歳の娘は猫に夢中。なぜか中東は野良猫が多いのですが、猫好きの娘には天国のような場所だったようです

2023年に来た時もお気に入りだった、珍しいドバイ固有の料理が食べられるレストランがあるのですが、今回はまだお腹いっぱいだったので素通り。

1ディルハムの船旅。ドバイでこれより安いものはない！

地区を抜け、アブラと呼ばれる伝統的な木造船で対岸のデイラ地区へ。 運賃はたったの1ディルハム（約0.27ドル / 約41円）。 ドバイの物価で、この値段で体験できるものは他にはありません。まさに破格！

驚いたのは、この小さな船でもカード払いが可能なこと。キャッシュレス化の波を感じます。 水面を渡る風が心地よく、義父母もこの安さと風情には大満足でした。

スパイスの香りと1月のテラスランチ

対岸のスパイス・スーク（市場）でお目当ての香辛料を購入。 ゴールド・スークも近く、とにかく人が多いエリアです。他の国なら警戒レベルですが、ドバイの治安の良さのおかげで娘を連れていても安心して歩けました。

帰りは前日使っていた、グランマの好きなビッグバスを活用し、ピラミッド型のホテル、ラッフルズ・ドバイに隣接するワフィ・シティ・モール（WAFI City Mall）で下車。 お腹が空いたという娘のリクエストでモール内のカフェへ。 サーモンとキヌアのヘルシーランチを選びました。 1月のドバイは気候が最高。四人でテラス席に座り、爽やかな風を感じながらのランチは至福のひととき。

後から知って驚いたのですが、なんとその日、隣のラッフルズでは日本の天皇誕生日祝賀会が開催されていたそう。 そんな大きなイベントのすぐ側でランチをしていたとは、驚きの偶然でした。

今回の旅を支えるステータスの秘密

During our stay in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, we enjoyed suite upgrades at every luxury hotel, including Grand Hyatt, Andaz, Park Hyatt, and even The Ritz-Carlton. The secret behind this VIP treatment is my Hyatt Globalist status.

From the Grand Hyatt, the Al Fahidi Historical District (Bastakiya) is just 15 minutes away. It is home to traditional architecture and the Al Seef Heritage Hotel Dubai, Curio Collection by Hilton.

We first passed a magnificent mosque. I wanted my in-laws to experience it, but they hesitated out of respect, feeling it might be for Muslims only. We continued through the alleys where my 4-year-old was captivated by the many street cats.

The 1-Dirham Abra Ride: The Best Deal in Dubai

We hopped on an Abra, a traditional wooden boat, to cross Dubai Creek. The fare is just 1 Dirham (approx. 0.27 USD / 41 JPY). You cannot find anything else in Dubai at this price. An unbeatable value!

Surprisingly, card payments are accepted even on these small boats. The breeze on the water was wonderful, and my in-laws loved the simple charm.

Spices and Terrace Lunch

On the other side, we explored the Spice Souq and bought some seasonings. Despite the crowds, Dubai’s safety kept me at ease with my daughter.

For the return, we took the Big Bus to WAFI City Mall, connected to Raffles Dubai. My daughter was hungry, so we had a healthy lunch of salmon and quinoa. January weather in Dubai is perfect, and lunching on the terrace was blissful.

Fun fact: Raffles was hosting a Japanese Emperor’s Birthday reception that same day! What a coincidence.
