宮城県丸森の熱中小学校での講演の当日・翌日は、現地の皆様の完全な受け入れ体制で、我ら家族をいろんな場所にご案内いただきました。
全国通訳案内士としてのポジショントークじゃないけれど、やっぱり地元の人に地元のことを案内してもらうって最高だよな。特に田舎で「何もない」と言われているところって、別に誰でもいける分かりやすい観光地はないかもしれないけれど、実は隠れたストーリーがたくさんある。そしてそれはガイドの口と車と足で案内してもらうからこそ分かったりするんですよね。
We visited Marumori in Miyagi Prefecture, where I was invited to give a lecture at Netchu School—a unique community revitalization project in the countryside. What followed was two full days of heartwarming hospitality and immersive local experiences, thanks to the incredible people of Marumori.
I’m not just saying this as a national licensed tour guide, but truly—there’s nothing like exploring a rural town with the people who live there. Places that seem like “nothing’s there” often hide rich stories that only locals can share through their words, their cars, and their time.
Day1
まず初日。福島駅から阿武隈急行線を使ってあぶくま駅に行くのになんとポケモン電車に乗りました！阿武急 ラプラス＆ラッキートレイン
1日に数回しか通らないそうで、本当にラッキー！実はこの日、なぜか都内の在来線が来なくて新幹線を一本遅らせるというトラブルがあったのですが、そのおかげでこのラッキーに乗れました。
After a train delay in Tokyo, we accidentally ended up boarding the super-rare Lapras & Lucky Pokémon train on the Abukuma Express Line—an absolute treat for our kids (and us)! It only runs a few times a day, so we felt very “lucky” indeed.
While I was giving my lecture, our daughters played with Dad and fell asleep in the car. Watching them sleep so peacefully was a gentle reminder of how kids absorb every moment.
Later, we were invited to dinner at Café Abukuma, where everyone gathered and toasted.
To our surprise, it was a sukiyaki feast—so delicious and warm.
We stayed at Abukumaso Inn, with spacious rooms and a private onsen bath. The room was a bit warm at night, but the charm of being surrounded by nature (and yes, a moth or two) made us feel more connected to the countryside. Even our daughter, usually scared of bugs, was unfazed here!

Day2
宿泊したあぶくま荘で。Abukuma Hostel
部屋の大きさも素敵だったのですが、夜冷房が充分に聞いておらずか暑かった・・・温泉は貸切でとても素敵でした。窓を大きく開けてあったので壁には蛾がいましたが、都心にいると虫と共存はまずしないけれど、こういう場所にいると自然を感じるという意味で許せてしまうので不思議だ。娘もいつもは怖がるのにここでは平気でした。私が虫におおらかになるからかしら。
We began with a peaceful walk near the inn. Hydrangeas were blooming, and our daughter proudly posed with her bug-catching net asking, “Take my picture, Mommy!”
We visited a local shrine—quiet, majestic, and untouched by tourists. You could feel the legacy and protection it offered Marumori for generations.
震災の時に寄贈されたらしいAKBバスがあった。
まずは宿の周りを散策します。
綺麗な紫陽花が咲いてたので、娘が駆け寄って「ママ撮って」。虫取り網でポーズを決めています。
地元の神社へ。言葉はいらないくらい、暑いけれど混んでなくて、でも昔から丸森を守って来た威厳と静寂が、この写真から伝わるでしょうか。
自然もとにかく美しくていちいちカメラのシャッターを切ってしまいます。iphoneだけじゃなくちゃんとキャノンのカメラを持ってきてよかった。
つぶら農園へ Tsubura Farm
そのあとは、熱中小学校の生徒さんのお家・農園にお邪魔しました。
ヤギに餌をあげたり、ツリーハウスに登ったり、ワンちゃんや鶏と遊んだりで子供達も大喜び！！山羊のお乳でできたチーズもいただきました。私もテンションが上がりました。都会にいたらなかなか出来ない良い経験だし、ヤギの赤ちゃんたち可愛すぎだし、私たち大人もメロメロです。
Next, we headed to Tsubura Farm, run by a student of Netchu School. The kids were overjoyed feeding baby goats, climbing a treehouse, and playing with chickens and a dog. We even tasted goat cheese made from their milk—it was incredible!
蔵の郷土館 齋理屋敷
最後に丸森で観光地といえばここ！という齋理屋敷に行き、説明を受けました。
お昼の時間でこの頃には子供たちも疲れ始めてテンションが上がりすぎていて、ゆっくり説明を聞けなかったのが残念ですが、幕末から明治、大正、昭和とかけて栄えた豪商齋藤家の蔵と屋敷を復元してある場所です。建物の建築がとても素敵ですし、当時の生活がわかる展示なども多くあります。
Finally, we visited the historical Sairi Residence, an Edo-to-Showa era merchant estate with beautifully preserved architecture and fascinating glimpses of traditional Japanese life. Although the kids were a bit tired by then, it’s a must-visit for anyone who loves Japanese history or design.
最後にこれまた昨日来てくださっていた方のお店、「道の駅 やしまや」へ。
店主さんが面白い方で、このお店を運営しながら出版やソングライター、そして歌手デビューもしてしまったそう。人生何があるかわからないね。
美味しい筍料理をいただきました。私いつもは筍料理ってそんなに好きじゃないんだけれど、ここのは全部食べてしまった。
We ended our visit at Yashimaya Roadside Station, where the owner has done everything from publishing books to debuting as a singer! His bamboo shoot dishes were surprisingly delicious—even for someone like me who usually avoids them.
Our daughters slept the whole train ride to Sendai, exhausted but content.
子供達は午前のアクティビティでぐっすりと寝ており、この後新幹線で宮城県仙台に行くまで起きませんでした。
