クリスマスは、湯河原の温泉に行ってきました。
JR 湘南新宿ライン→JR 東海道線で、渋谷近くから二時間弱。

茅ヶ崎など海の近くを通ってうきうき。地理的には、真鶴の近くで、箱根の手前なんですね。I recently went to Yugawara Onsen (hotspring) area.
It is about 2 hours from Shibuya. It is near Hakone .
With the experience, I’d like to explain to my foreign friends/readers how to enjoy the Hot spring Ryokan(Japanese Style Hotel) , especially for the first time.

駅に到着したらちょうどバスが待っていて、まずはLunch!
魚屋さんの２階にあって、これは絶対美味しいでしょ！なお店「魚繁」にて。
お刺身にホタテ焼き、西京焼きにカニ汁までついてセットで1500円って、安い！
大好物、うにもとっても美味しいです。
お刺身芸人？の私は、興奮しっぱなしでした。When you go to Onsen, there should be some local good restaurant.

そしてバスで移動。湯河原は、あんまり回るところない割に（失礼！）バスが結構な頻度でくるので、車で来なくても問題ありませんでした。
万葉公園をお散歩。今年は暖かかったので、まだ紅葉がちょこちょこ残っていました。Walked around Manyo park , which still had some colored leaf. This winter is not cold at all in Japan.
足湯ができる独歩の湯も素敵そうでしたたが、早く温泉宿にいきたかったのでスルーしちゃった。
Fukiya was wonderful ryokan(Japanese style hotel) , with 7 different hot springs.
Especially I loved the rooftop one with the view!Also, relux is online concierge service to reserve the good quality ryokan.

優しいお湯で、たった一晩で３度も温泉を楽しみました。
訪日観光客が増える中、若い外国の方は温泉を楽しむようにはなってきてはいますが、まだまだ湯河原にくる方は少ないとのことです。
宿の中にも英語表記は全くなく、外国人を連れてくるにはちょっと心配かも、と思ってしまいました。

というのも私、通訳案内士でベルギー人を９人連れて温泉宿に行った時に本当にショックなことがあったのです。
それは、８日間日本各地を回るツアーのうち、素敵な温泉宿に泊まったのに、だーれも温泉に入らなかったこと。
富士山の近くと飛騨の近くで、すっごくいい温泉だったんだけれどなあ。。
バスの中で、そして温泉宿についてから、私は結構丁寧に温泉の良さを説明したつもりではあったのですが、翌朝どうだった？と聞いてまさかの誰も入っていないという事態。
正直、予想外でした。
人前で裸になるのが文化的に「ありえないこと」というのもあるけれど、おそらく私の説明不足で不安に思ったのではないかと思います。それから、その晩宿泊した宿は「 THE 日本」だったので、やはり温泉現場に何も英語表記や絵の説明がないことを不安に思ったようです。
確かに、一人または二人で入らないといけない時に、何も表記がないとわからないよなあ・・・もっと丁寧に説明してあげればよかったなあ・・・と、反省しました。
だから、外国人とではなくても、温泉に行くと必ずチェックしちゃうんです。
バスタオルを持って入らないで、とか、先に体を洗って、とか、基本的なことがどこかに英語で書いてあるか。
まだまだ、書いてある温泉は少ないです。
箱根の一部や、大江戸温泉は、外国人も増えているので、対応しているみたいですが。
This Onsen Ryokan was wonderful, though it did not have enough instruction of how to use / enjoy in English.
Since the number of foreigners who travel Japan is increasing, I hope they will do it more . Also, I felt the responsibility of myself who is a English tour guide , to explain in even more detail such as :-You can not take the big bath towel with you
-You can only take the small towel.
-You have to wash your body/ hair before getting into the hot spring.
-You can not soak the towel into the hot spring.

でも、基本和食で油が多くなく、お魚とお野菜をふんだんに使ったお料理なので、なんだか体にいい。気がする。
電車の待ち時間に買ったシャンパンを持って行ってたので、ほろ酔いに。Here is the dinner. Just Enjoy the gorgeousness! You don’t have to worry about getting tipsy or wild , because it often served at your room

それから、今回来て思ったこと。
日本の旅館の仲居さんってすごいな！！
なんていうか、上品にお世話を焼いてくださるお母さんというかんじ。
これも、海外の方には事前に伝えておかないと、びっくりするだろうなと思いました。
着いたらまずお茶を入れてくれたり、
お部屋出しの場合、ご飯をよそってくれたり
お布団を引いてくれたり。
外国のホテルでは、ホテルスタッフが荷物を運び入れる以外にあまり部屋に長いすることってない、気がする。
改めてなんだか新鮮だなと思った。
おかみさんがお部屋にお料理出してくれるって、いいよね・・・！
The second surprise foreigners may have at Ryokan would be this “Nakai-san”, waitress at Ryokan.
She helps everything for your stay- She serves tea when you are arriving, explaining the rules of the hotel/ hot spring, serves meal at your room, makes a futon (Japanese style bed), wakes you up in the morning, and brings breakfast to serve.
Yes, she is like your mom at your Ryokan, in a great way!
If you feel it’s too much, you can tell her.
さて、楽しい時間はあっという間。
翌朝の豪華な朝ご飯をへて、チェックアウト。
