Traveling for a Month in Thailand & Malaysia with Our 3-Year-Old and 1-Year-Old
Following our stay at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, our wonderful Bangkok hotel experiences continue!
This time, we stayed at Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok. I’ll share a detailed review, especially for families with small children like us!
First Impressions & Lobby
The lobby has a modern and stylish atmosphere. We arrived around 1 PM, and it was quite bustling and lively. Maybe it was the upbeat music playing? But with all the greenery outside, it didn’t feel cramped at all.
While waiting to check in, we enjoyed playing with a large, adorable dog (Kimpton hotels are pet-friendly, including their Tokyo location!) and sipping on some refreshing tea. Unlike the calm and sophisticated Grand Hyatt, this hotel had a much more energetic vibe.
The Room
Huge! Simply put, it was spacious.
Even though it was a one-bedroom suite, it had a total of 67m² (722 sq ft) including the bathroom. The large windows made the room feel even bigger, and there was plenty of space for our kids to run around.
Our 3-year-old daughter was thrilled with the welcome sweets—macarons, which she excitedly called her “pink hamburger” 😂.
The large dining table was super helpful for meals. We ordered Thai food via Grab for dinner, and having a proper table to eat at was a game-changer for a family trip.
- The bathroom was spacious and had a dedicated suitcase storage area.
- The bathroom door closed properly, preventing light from leaking out—a must when traveling with young kids who go to bed early!
- Their signature bathrobe is famous—it looks like a Muay Thai fighter’s robe! It was lightweight, silky, and super comfortable.
- The soap and amenities were from HARNN, a luxury Thai brand.
We initially booked the most basic room category, but they upgraded us to this nearly 70m² suite! What a nice surprise!
Kid-Friendly Amenities
Kimpton Maa-Lai provided:
✅ Two baby cribs
✅ Baby bathtub
✅ Kid-friendly body soap, baby lotion, baby oil, and toothbrushes
✅ Care Bears-themed toiletries (rare in Japan!), which our kids loved
They also gave us a kids’ map, colored pencils, and a drawstring bag. There was even a stamp rally, and if kids collected all the stamps, they could get free ice cream!
Our kids had fun bathing together in the baby tub… which was placed inside the regular bathtub 😂.
Breakfast
The breakfast area had an L-shaped layout, with food stations spread throughout the space. This made it a bit challenging for families with young kids, as it was hard to explore all the options while managing little ones. The restaurant was also quite crowded during our visit.
That said, the noodle station was incredible! (Then again, Thai food is always amazing as long as it’s not too spicy!) There was also a great variety of dishes and even fresh coconut juice.
Pool
While waiting for check-in, we visited the infinity pool.
- Surrounded by beautiful greenery, making it feel like an oasis.
- It doesn’t get too much direct sunlight, which kept the water a bit cooler—a welcome relief in Bangkok’s heat!
- The view of the lower-level garden area was also lovely.
We also noticed many families with kids at the pool!
Garden Area
The hotel has a small green space for walking, visible from the pool.
We explored it before checking out, and it was completely empty—so peaceful and refreshing! It only takes about 5 minutes to walk around, but it was a nice little break. I wish we had brought the kids there!
Rooftop Bar
This was an unexpected highlight!
The 40th-floor rooftop bar allows kids from 5-6 PM, and they offer free-flow drinks for one hour!
That means:
✅ Unlimited alcoholic drinks for adults (my husband definitely took advantage of this 😆)
✅ Mocktails & soft drinks included
✅ Other families with young kids were also there
Such a rare and family-friendly experience at a rooftop bar!
これは予想外のハイライトでした！40階のルーフトップバーでは、17-18時の間は子連れOKで、なんと1時間飲み放題（フリーフロー）があります！大人のアルコール（夫は何杯飲んだことか…）からモクテル、ソフトドリンクまで全部含まれます。他にも小さな子連れ家族が何組もいました。
Overall Atmosphere
Kimpton Maa-Lai is not a quiet luxury hotel—instead, it’s a modern, vibrant, and energetic place.
We’ve visited Bangkok twice before, and our impression has always been that it’s a city full of energy that never sleeps—and this hotel matched that vibe perfectly!
- The lobby and breakfast area were lively, with loud music and a busy atmosphere.
- However, once we got to our room floor, it was quiet and spacious, allowing us to fully relax.
We also noticed that most guests were Asian, especially Chinese-speaking visitors. Compared to the Grand Hyatt, where 80-90% of guests were Westerners, Kimpton seemed to attract more travelers from Singapore, Taiwan, and other parts of Asia.

Location & Accessibility
📍 12-minute walk from BTS Chit Lom Station
🚶♀️ Walkable, but Bangkok’s sidewalks are rough—probably better to take a Grab if traveling with kids.
🚌 Shuttle bus to BTS every hour (we didn’t use it since we only stayed one night).
🌳 Lumphini Park is very close, which is great for families!

こんにちは！3歳と1歳連れ家族で、タイとマレーシアで１カ月旅行中です。
前回のグランドハイアットエラワンバンコクに続き、素敵なバンコクホテル体験が続きます。
今回はキンプトン・マーライです！特に私たちのように小さな子連れの方のために、なるべく詳しくレポートします！
ロビーと最初の印象
ロビーはとてもモダンな雰囲気でスタイリッシュな空間。早めの13時頃に到着すると、かなり混み合っていてアクティブな雰囲気でした。アップテンポな音楽が流れていたからかな？外にはたくさんの緑に囲まれているので窮屈には感じませんでした。
チェックイン待ちの間、大きな可愛いワンちゃんと戯れたり（キンプトンは東京でもドッグフレンドリーなホテルなんです！）、出していただいたお茶を楽しんだりしました。落ち着いたグランドハイアットとは違い、こちらは全体的に活気がありますね。
お部屋
広い！とにかく広い！ワンベッドルームですがバスルームと総計で67m2（722sq ft）はありました。大きな窓が印象的で、子供たちが走り回っても余裕がありました。ウェルカムスイーツのマカロンに3歳の娘は大喜び（彼女は「ピンクのハンバーガー」と呼んでいます😂）。
テーブルが大きいので食事がしやすかったのも助かりました。この日の夕食はGrabでタイ料理を注文しましたが、ちゃんとしたスペースで食べられるのは子連れ旅行では重要なポイントです！
バスルームやスーツケース置き場も広々としていて、バスルームのドアがきちんと閉まり光漏れしないのも良かったです（前回のようにスイートルームを取れたらいいけれど毎回ではないので・・子供の睡眠のために別部屋は重要！）。キンプトンマーライと言えば、このバスローブが有名！ムエタイ選手みたいで嬉しい。着心地も、薄くてサラサラしてて最高でした！
また石鹸もHARNNのもの。タイの高級ブランドです。
ちなみに、最も安いカテゴリーの部屋で予約したけども、アップグレードしていただけてこの広い70平米弱ある部屋になりました。嬉しい驚きでした！
キッズアメニティ
ベビーベッドを2台用意してくれましたし、ベビーバスタブ、子供用のボディソープ、ベビーローション、ベビーオイルや歯ブラシもいただきました。日本に珍しいケアベアの商品、子供達大喜び。
また、キッズ地図と色鉛筆とナップザックをもらいました。これもとても助かりました。スタンプラリーもついてて、全部回るとアイスクリームがもらえるそうです！
朝食
朝食会場はL字型のレイアウトで、食べ物のコーナーが空間全体に点在しています。子連れには少し大変かも…あちこち見て回るのが難しいですし、訪問時はかなり混雑していました。
とはいえ、ヌードルは絶品でした！（でもまあ、タイ料理って辛すぎなければ、いつだって美味しいですよね！）種類も豊富で、ヤシの実ジュースまで楽しめました。
プール
チェックインまでの時間を使ってインフィニティプールへ。周囲の緑が美しく、直射日光があまり入らないのが良いですね。そのせいか少し冷たく感じるほどでしたが、バンコクの暑さを考えるとそれも悪くないかも。下の階のグリーンエリアの眺めも素敵でした。
子連れが結構多いことにもここで気づきました。
お庭
ホテル内に、散策できるグリーンスペースがあり！ホテルのプールから見えました。チェックアウト前に行ってみると誰もおらず、気持ちよかったなあ。5分くらいで周り終わってしまいますが、爽やかな気持ちになりました。子供にも安全だし連れて行けばよかった。
ルーフトップバー

全体の雰囲気
キンプトン・マーライは、静かな高級感というよりも、モダンでワクワクするようなエネルギッシュな場所でした。元々過去二回きたことのあるバンコクに対して、眠らない街！エネルギー！なイメージを持っていたので、それを裏切らずぴったり。
ロビーや朝食は活気に満ちて音楽も大きく、少し落ち着かないくらいだけれど、部屋のフロアに入れば綺麗で静かで部屋は何より広くて、静かにリラックスして過ごせました。
お客さんは、ここはアジア人、特に中華系の人が多かった！その直前まで泊まってたグランドハイアットが白人が８−９割なのに対し、こちらはアジア人が多めです。中国人に限らず、シンガポール台湾などでは？と思われるアクセントの方も多くいました。
因みにホテルの公式説明の説明は：「キンプトン・マーライ・バンコクは、バンコクの活気に満ちあふれたエネルギーを取り入れ、都会の生の激しさを素朴な精神、優れたデザインと融合させています。タイの首都そのもののように、このホテルは気取らなくもエッジが効いていて、洗練されながらも伝統的、現代的でありながら永遠の魅力を持っています。」
アクセス・ロケーション
BTSチットロム駅から12分。少し歩く覚悟があれば徒歩圏内ですが、子連れには歩道がガタガタなので毎回グラブかな。駅まで1時間に1本のシャトルバスがあるそうですが私たちは一白なので使いませんでした。ルンピニ公園はすぐ近くなので良いね。
